Sidsel Christensen is a London-based artist engaged in moving image, live-events and performance-based lectures. She maintains an ongoing working relationship in Norway, where she was brought up. She has a BA from Goldsmiths and MA from the Royal College of Art respectively. Sidsel Christensen will present her work, with a specific focus on live and performative aspects of her practice. In recent years, Christensen has developed the format of performative lectures, where she embodies historical and contemporary women, exploring the workings of a subjectivity that unfolds between authenticity and fictional constructs of the self. Specifically to look at different possibilities for the imagination to transform the perceived reality for an individual or group.
This year Sidsel executed her first major institutional exhibition at Stavanger Art Museum and is currently showing at The Tetley, Leeds (UK). Featured exhibitions between 2011/13 include The Edge of Reason at KINO KINO Centre for Contemporary Art and Film (Sandnes, Norway), Long Live The New Flesh at Institute of Contemporary Arts (London, UK), Oval Space (London, UK), Høstustillingen at Kunstnernes Hus, (Oslo, Norway) and a bigger video commission ‘Compositions’ produced for and showed at Berwick video art Festival (UK)
