Maja Hammarén (b.1978, Sweden) is an artist and writer based in Gothenburg, whose contemporary history often recurs in her artistic research. Her practice uses the power of language and performativity, collective experiences and narrator positions and concerns with political regimes and economic interests. This lecture will question and hopefully problematize these methods (e.g., the use of re-enactment as an artistic strategy).
She is currently participating in the Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art and has previously exhibited at Göteborg Konstmu- seum, Bonniers Konsthall, Röda Sten and more. Her latest works and publications include Elva år senare/Eleven Years Later, Storyteller. Journalisten som ville vara en björn, A History of Shit: A performative lecture by Maja Hammarén and Fantasin om att vara äkta. She teaches at Valand Academy, University of Gothenburg.
